Is THERMOS for you?

The THERMOS project provides sophisticated new energy system mapping methodologies and modelling tools in a web-based software to empower public authorities (and other agencies and stakeholders) to plan, develop, and expand local area heating and cooling systems significantly more quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively.

We want to put local decision makers in a position to identify the right areas and routes for different types of thermal systems quickly and accurately by automating questions about possible system configurations and economics in the THERMOS software.

This approach massively reduces planning costs, speeding up the lengthy processes currently associated with building and upgrading thermal networks (i.e. due to repeated analyses, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies of different options and routes). It also allows national and regional planning to be based on the same high-resolution data as local project development processes.

By that, we hope to develop a 'standard' for energy system planning which presents a complex modelling software in an accessible format that is easy for urban planners to use.

Local and regional authorities, as well as public and private utilities who have responsibility for local energy network and infrastructural planning, are the primary beneficiaries of the THERMOS software. Local energy agencies can also use the THERMOS software or become a THERMOS trainer.

THERMOS also has relevance for local government networks and associations, the energy industry, and consultancies, who have an interest in supporting or implementing better heating and cooling planning and mapping for local authorities. Relevant national, European and academic institutions play a role in supporting the scientific and policy conditions for thermal planning and they too, may find THERMOS of use.
